BEHIND THE MASK takes us on into a hidden world of fantastical sounds, of reinvention and discovery as we explore the mystical and captivating 4 dance movements that make up Faure's arrangement of his earlier compositions into the Masque et Bergamasques Suite. Returning for his second appearance as soloist with the WPO, Dimitri Ashkenazy will perform the rarely heard Second Concerto of Weber, a glorious composition, unfairly overshadowed by it's predecessor.

Another work of mystery is the magical and whimsical Symphony by Bizet. The only symphonic work in his output, and composed when Bizet was only 17 years old. This work is not only beautiful to listen to, but a noteworthy mile stone in melodic invention, thematic handling and orchestration and a real treat to present.

Lee Bracegirdle conducts this spectacular program so be sure to mark the dates in your calendars!
