Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nuremburg Overture is a powerful opening to a massive opera which sets the tone for some serious musical seduction with it’s lavish harmonies, orchestration and scope. With it’s sweeping melodies and fanfares, we start the concert with sheer brilliance.
With his dashing good looks and unparalleled showmanship and technique, Liszt had people swooning for his charismatic style and his piano concertos were certainly designed to showcase his powers of seduction. Liszt's First Piano Concerto in E flat major, is a dramatic and expressive work and this performance highlights the phenomenal talent's of our own resident Principal Pianist, Paul Cheung who we are delighted to feature as our esteemed soloist.
The WPO is also delighted to bring to you a brand new reinvention of a popular work by J.S. Bach, originally for solo organ, and transcribed by this concert's conductor, Chris Upton explores the multitudinous machinations of this famous Toccata & Fugue and sheds new light on it’s power and beauty.
And no tale of seduction would be complete without a mention of the worlds most famous lovers. Tchaikovsky's telling of the tale of Romeo & Juliet will leave you breathless and yearning for more
The Woollahra Philharmonic is delighted to welcome the amazing talents of Chris Upton to conduct this exhilarating program.
